Understanding the Asset Performance Score (APS)

The Asset Performance Score (APS) is a powerful feature within the Insytly platform designed to give you a quick, at-a-glance health check of your remote assets.

Instead of just looking at individual data points, the APS combines multiple status indicators into a single, simple score from 0 to 100. This helps you instantly identify which assets are performing well and which require your attention, encouraging proactive management to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.

How is the APS Calculated?

Your APS is a direct reflection of the small, coloured "Status Tags" you see for each device on your Mission Control page.

The calculation is simple and transparent:

  1. Each Status Tag has a point value:

    • Green: The status is optimal. (2 points)

    • Orange: The status is a warning or requires attention. (1 point)

    • Red: The status is critical or failing. (0 points)

  2. Your Score is Calculated: The system adds up the points from all the visible status tags for that specific device.

  3. Maximum Score is Determined: The maximum possible score is calculated by multiplying the number of visible tags by 2 (the value of a 'Green' tag).

  4. The Final APS is a Percentage: Your final score is calculated as: (Your Total Points / Maximum Possible Points) * 100 = Your APS %

Example:

Let's say your device profile in Mission Control shows 6 status tags:

  • All 6 tags are Orange.

  • Your score is: 6 tags x 1 point = 6 points.

  • The maximum possible score is: 6 tags x 2 points = 12 points.

  • Your APS calculation is: (6 / 12) * 100 = 50%.

If one of those tags turned Green, your score would become (5 orange + 1 green) = 7 points. Your APS would then be (7 / 12) * 100 = 58%.

How to Improve Your Asset Performance Score

Improving your APS is straightforward: turn your tags from Red or Orange to Green.

Your APS is a direct call to action. If you see a low score on an asset:

  1. Look at the Status Tags: Identify which tags are Red or Orange. These are the source of the problem.

  2. Click on the Device: Navigate to the detailed dashboard for that asset.

  3. Investigate the Issue: Look at the corresponding data. Is the battery voltage low? Is the cellular signal weak? Is a temperature sensor reading too high? Do you have a lot of unread notifications?

  4. Take Action: Address the underlying issue. This might involve scheduling a site visit to check a battery, or adjusting a sensor.

As you resolve these issues and the status tags turn green, your APS will automatically improve, reflecting the increased health and reliability of your asset and in turn your connected fleet.

The APS is also used in the summary widgets at the bottom of the Mission Control page to rank your "Worst Performing Assets" and "Worst Performing Sites," helping you focus your maintenance efforts where they are needed most.
