My GPS is not reporting its location.

If your device is not reporting its location or the GPS data seems inaccurate, follow these steps to diagnose and resolve the most common issues.

Step 1: Check Physical Connections

First, ensure the hardware is connected correctly.

  • Secure Connection: Confirm the GPS antenna cable is screwed securely into the dedicated GPS screw terminal on the IY-HUB2 or IY-LITE unit.

  • Inspect for Damage: Check both the cable and the antenna for any visible signs of damage, such as cuts or crushed sections.

Step 2: Verify Antenna Placement

Correct placement is the most critical factor for a strong GPS signal.

  • Clear View of the Sky: The GPS antenna must have a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.

  • Mounting: The antenna should be mounted on a solid surface (a "ground plane"), facing upwards.

  • ⚠️ Avoid Metal Obstructions: Do not mount the antenna under any metal surfaces. Metal will typically block the GPS signal and prevent it from acquiring a satellite fix.

What if my device is inside a metal enclosure?

If your Insytly unit is installed inside a metal box or cabinet and is currently not reporting, you have two options:

  1. Route the Supplied Antenna: Carefully route the standard GPS antenna cable so that the antenna itself is mounted externally, outside of the metal enclosure.

  2. Upgrade to an External Puck Antenna: For a more robust and permanent solution in challenging installations, consider using an external puck-style antenna. Please contact our support team to discuss the best options for your setup.

Step 3: Allow Time to Acquire a Satellite Fix

A GPS needs time to locate satellites, especially after being moved or powered on.

  • If the unit was recently in an area with no signal (like inside a workshop or garage) or has just been moved to a new location, place it in an open area and allow up to 20 minutes for it to acquire a new, stable satellite fix.

Step 4: Check Connectivity Status in the Platform

After performing the steps above, you can verify the GPS status in your Insytly dashboard.

  • Navigate to the specific device on the Insytly platform.

  • Find the 'Connectivity' tab within Device Settings.

  • This area will show you details on the GPS status, including when it last successfully reported its location. This helps you confirm if your troubleshooting steps were successful.
